We developed green team in partnership with Flintshire County Council (as part of Flintshire County Council’s Welsh government funded, vibrant and viable places programme).

Green Team supports young unemployed people with few or no qualifications to gain skills and experience that will help move them into employment, education or training opportunities. We have delivered 7 phases and supported over 135 participants through Green Team, with 64 of these young people progressing into employment, education or training.

Green Team provided opportunities for individuals to gain horticultural and environmental knowledge through the delivery of a variety of local community development projects. Alongside this, individuals gained employability skills as well as work related qualifications, such as strimmer, first aid and health and safety training all achieved over the 12 week engagement.

Green Team Plus is a progression route for those completing the Green Team Traineeship who need further support and career guidance to make the transition to employment. Green Team Plus offered supported work placement opportunities ensuring that participants gained formal work experience, this additional in-work support provided invaluable assistance to help the individual move into sustainable employment. Where appropriate, and where transport is a barrier to employment, the Green Team Plus programme provided a starter pack of driving lessons in the first month of employment, which included 3 lessons and the theory test. Financial support from Price Waterhouse Coopers funded the Driver Starter course.

“Through the delivery of the Green Team and Green Team Plus we have hard evidence that a Traineeship like this helps the progression of young people and develops their skills to allow them to successfully present themselves at interview and gain employment opportunities going forward.”
Lorna Crawshaw, Head of Programmes & Partnership, Groundwork North Wales

“Green Team gave me really useful training and a great experience.”
