Nearly £650,000 has been awarded by the Big Lottery fund and will be coming to Connah’s Quay, Flintshire over the next five years with the announcement that a bid to the “Create Your Space” programme has been successful.
"Create Your Space" is intended to support communities to make better use of their open spaces. Many people in Connah's Quay came together to develop a proposal called 'Our Back Yard', which will help to make the most of the many open spaces, both large and small, around the town.
One area set to receive a makeover is Golftyn Park in Connah's Quay. The Councillors for Golftyn ward, Paul Shotton and Andy Dunbobbin said; "We're very pleased our community has won this great opportunity. We're one of only six proposals across Wales to have done so, out of over 60 originally sent in."
Rita Singh, Big Lottery Fund Wales Committee member, said: "The Create Your Space programme will support Welsh communities to become stronger and more engaged with their local environment by helping them to achieve a unique vision that will benefit them and future generations.
"By supporting communities to transform their local natural environments in their own vision we are delivering on our promise to use National Lottery funding to regenerate and revitalise communities, and to leave a lasting legacy."
The proposals for "Our Backyard" were drawn up by a steering group of community organisations and members co-ordinated by Groundwork North Wales, who are now advertising for staff to help run the project.
Anyone interested in applying can get details from the Groundwork North Wales website at /jobs-volunteering.aspx or by contacting Jane Williams on 01978 757524
The "Create Your Space" programme is funded by National Lottery funds and Dormant Accounts, delivered by the Big Lottery Fund in partnership with Welsh Government.
